Former housekeeper now owner of 5 star luxury hotel…it’s stories like these to live for

By Tafadzwa Hove

In a positive story which is making rounds on the internet a former housekeeper who used to work at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the United States is now the owner of a five star luxurious hotel. Souadou Niang is the owner of Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel in Dakar, Senegal.

She told BBC Africa that ,”I started out cleaning toilets. Today, I am the manager of my own five-star boutique hotel with 60 employees.

Born and raised in Dakar, Niang moved to the U.S. at the age of 18. She went from New York to Washington, DC, where she applied for work at the Ritz-Carlton to help pay for her academic fees.

Niang worked cleaning rooms at the hotel for 10 years while also studying. Throughout those years, she always dreamt that she would someday become more successful in the field. Indeed, she later got a job with the management team at the same hotel she started working as a housekeeper.

Niang further said ,”I rose through the ranks and that’s where I got the passion. I said one day I will go back to my country and show that luxury and quality of service can be achieved there.”

And she did exactly that! She launched Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel upon returning to Dakar, Senegal in 2017. However, the journey was not a bed of roses. She experienced rejections from several banks mainly because she is a woman. Not until one investor believed in her determination and took the risk to invest in her project.

Now, Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel is a famous five-star hotel which is run by a staff of 80% female. Niang chose to hire more women as she believes in their potential.

Moreover, she hopes to expand the hotel locations across Africa and even internationally.

She comments, “My dream is to conquer Africa, and why not the world. As the international hotel franchises in Africa, we should be able to adapt our Afro-chic boutique hotels in Western countries, and show African women can run luxury boutique hotels with the same standards as the international hotels.”

God can repair you again

By Tafadzwa Hove

” that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.” Amos 9:11-12

Are you hopeless or is your life in a miserable state? What have you encountered in your journey of life that makes you wonder if God really loves you ?  God is giving you hope through His Word in Amos 9:11-12. Just take His Word and believe what He said for He’s not a man that He shall lie.

Is your career, business, marriage, spiritual life or health in shambles? Let’s say for an example, you were once intelligent, your reasoning capacity was very sharp, your sense of judgement was one of the best in the world! But suddenly tragedy strikes one day and a severe headache hits you hard. It leaves you with loss of memory ,confusion ,poor reasoning capacity and you can’t even read what’s written on the paper because you can’t see clearly, your eyes have been affected as well. God is promising you in His Word that he will raise up everything that’s in ruins and will build it as in the days of the old. What does this mean to you ? This means God is able to restore your mental state which is in a mess  to the way it was before!

There’s no one Jesus cannot turn around ,no matter where you have gone. There’s no one created that cannot be redeemed,no one lost that cannot be found and no one broken that cannot be restored! Sometimes God breaks us in order to promote us!  God didn’t promise  to keep us away from troubles ,but He promised to see us through them. In other words challenges are the soil on which faith flourishes. They encourage us to want to know God the more ,pray the more ,fast the more ,and  read His  Word the more. We should embrace challenges as they will strengthen our relationship with God .

He will abandon you for a brief moment but with deep compassion He will bring you back ! Broken things become useful in God’s hands. Cheer up ;He will restore you!

Forgiveness Matters

By Tafadzwa Hove

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Mark 11:25-26

Forgiveness is at the centre of Christianity. Jesus forgave us our sins by  going  on the cross on our behalf. Jesus here emphasised on the importance of forgiving others so that when we pray ,our Father in heaven would hear us! Just imagine praying to God with offences ,grudges ,jealousy etc in your heart. Our God is holy so he requires us to also come to Him with pure hearts. Hearts which are free from offences and grudges . The state of your heart when approaching God matters.

We need to forgive because we all need to be forgiven. We need to forgive because no one is perfect on this earth. Perfect people do not exist on this earth. We need to forgive because we all make mistakes. No one is without his or her own flaws. We need to forgive so that we could live peacefully in our society. God is the peacemaker so we ought to be also like him. We need to forgive each other even if we don’t share same sentiments and faith.

Let’s forgive each other!

Kenyan entrepreneur opens factory producing plastic bricks

By Tafadzwa Hove

In an interesting story making rounds online , Nzambi Matee, an entrepreneur from Kenya who is the founder and owner of Gjenge Makers,  has opened an innovative company that changes plastic waste into bricks that can last longer than concrete.

Matee, a materials engineer, founded the company in the year 2018 out of frustration with what the government was doing (and not doing) with the problem of plastic pollution.

“I was tired of being on the sidelines,” she was heard  telling Reuters.  Matee procures  the waste that cannot be recycled from recyclers for a small amount. She also procures the waste from packaging factories free of charge.

Her factory manufactures different varieties of plastic waste such as high-density polyethylene, used in milk ,bleach bottles and shampoo bottles; low-density polyethylene, often used as bags for cereals or sandwiches; and polypropylene, used for ropes, flip-top lids, and buckets; except polyethylene terephthalate or PET, commonly used for plastic bottles.

She has employed her knowledge within the field in  designing machines that blend plastic waste with sand, heat it, and compress into bricks in different thickness and color. Matee boldly and  proudly claims that their product is “almost five to seven times stronger than concrete” yet sustainable and affordable.

Since the time of it’s formation, her factory has recycled over 20 tonnes of plastic waste, producing 1,500 bricks each day. She said she hopes to add another bigger production line that could triple capacity.

Love is life, life is love

By Tafadzwa Hove

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

Nothing would please God more than showing love to those who are sick and in need, especially to strangers. Obeying God’s commands (loving our neighbors as ourselves, loving one another) is the only way to show that we love Him.

We should always aim to seek out those languishing on sickbeds and not only show love to them through giving but also to nurture genuine friendship with them.

There is need to demonstrate love for God, which requires us to help those in need at all times, whether or not we know them. Love is the greatest.
